For many Americans, life is tough. The state of our economy has left record numbers in the unemployment line and obesity is an ever-expanding epidemic. Somehow, our wallets and our waistlines seem to be moving on inversely proportional tracks.
In short, our society is facing physical and financial ruin. Okay, the situation may not be quite that bleak, but these certainly are problems that affect many of us on scale that has not been seen in decades.
We need to get our collective head out of the clouds (or the gutter, as the case may be) and get our bodies and bank accounts in order. And if you’re tempted to offer up a bunch of excuses as to why you can’t, here are a few excellent reasons why you should.
You Need To Take Control
Nobody likes feeling as though they are at the mercy of a tempest, and if you find yourself in debt, dealing with health issues, or both, your life can start to seem like the storm of the century.
Taking control in one area of your life, say by balancing your diet and working out, will give you the confidence and momentum you need to regain control in other arenas, such as resolving your financial issues by:
- Going back to school,
- Finding the right job, or
- Planning a budget that will help you dig your way out of debt.
Once things start going your way, you’ll be amazed at how quickly everything falls into place.
It Feels Good
You know the benefits of being in top physical form. You’re more alert and energized and you don’t have to suffer the embarrassment of breaking into a sweat going up a single flight of stairs. But becoming financially fit will relieve stress and help you sleep at night, which can be equally fulfilling.
Attitude Makes a Difference
You’ve heard of The Secret. It may sound like a lot of hokum, but there’s actually something to the claim that visualizing your goals can help them come about. The truth is, visualization is just a form of mental planning, and having a positive attitude is like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So making a plan, taking the steps to bring it to fruition, and really believing in yourself is going to bring you a lot closer to achieving your objectives than watching TV and eating bon-bons all day, wondering why nothing good ever happens to you.
You Can Improve Relationships
If you’re feeling miserable, chances are pretty good that everyone around you is catching the vibe, whether it’s your family, your friends, or the barista at Starbucks. Making a change in the parts of your life that you control will not only make you feel better, it will allow you to interact more freely with others and patch up any damage you might have caused with your moping or malaise.
You’ll Become More Attractive
It’s no surprise that a svelte physique and a sturdy stock portfolio are a fetching combo, but even beyond the superficial aspects of physical and financial fitness, people naturally seek the company and services of those who are confident in themselves and their abilities.
Conditioning your body can improve your posture and skin tone, as well as your energy level and brain function, all of which are alluring. But having your finances in order can make you look good in the sense that you are organized and responsible, also appealing qualities.
Physically and Financially Fit
So while getting fit in one area can be hugely beneficial, merging your quest for physical fitness with your desire for fiscal solvency is really a natural marriage of goals. You’re bound to find that your chances for success in one area will grow exponentially if you combine your efforts, so start planning for your future.
The road to physical and financial fitness may appear to stretch to the horizon, but once you begin to see results, you’ll be glad you took that first step.
