A large part of the Don’t Go Broke Diet is getting adequate protein consumption. Protein has multiple benefits including decreasing hunger and increasing metabolism. However, protein can be very expensive. Eggs are an exception.
The misunderstanding
Eggs are a misunderstood food. When health leaders thought that the amount of cholesterol in the blood was directly proportional to the amount of cholesterol ingested, eggs were demonized. However, now that it is understood that high blood cholesterol is proportional to the amount of saturated fat ingested, eggs have been pardoned.
Nutrients
Eggs provide all of the essential amino acids your body needs to create, build and repair itself. These amino acids are part of the high quality protein in eggs. Eggs, especially the egg whites, have proteins with a high biological value. They are absorbed and efficiently used.
Most of the fat in eggs is good fat. They are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that improve your overall health. These fats can reduce your risks of getting heart disease, getting cancer, having a heart attack or having a stroke.
Along with good fats and high quality protein, eggs have other nutrients such as choline, riboflavin, folate, lutein, zeaxanthin, iron and vitamin D. These nutrients have multiple health benefits.
Price
The best quality of eggs is the price. A large egg cost about 11 cents and two would be 22 cents. That is a great price for the high quality protein, good fats and nutrients found in eggs.
Get yourself some eggs and Don’t Go Broke.
